Last week, Iattended my first council meeting in my hometown. It was…eventful to say the least.The meeting was long and grueling as it carried on pastits original end time of 11:55pm. Rightly so as our council was voting on a historic decision to accept a provincially-proposed LRT project through the city’s downtown core.Long story short, council voted against extending it to the downtown core– despite the overwhelming amount of delegations in support. From youth. From various occupational boards in and out of the city. From unions and local businesses. Heck, even a global brandwith an office located in the city was in support.

But our council struck it down. Our council, which fails to accurately represent the socioeconomic and demographic realities of the city, thought it would be in the city’s best interest to turn away this once-in-a-lifetime deal.And this frustrates me.
